Colombian Vinyl Mix

One year ago I was returning to the UK from a month long trip to Colombia, a little more sunkissed, with a bag full of records that i’d picked up along the way. A year later and I find myself sat at the window, eyes closed, soaking in some rare February sunshine and listening to the collection of these records you can hear above. It doesn’t feel like the Caribbean coast of Colombia in Manchester today, but it’s enough to temporarily take me back. I hope the mix of Cumbia, Afro-Latin and Salsa transports you up too.

The video below is from Discolombia in Barranquilla. An amazing place with a rich history, that I found most of the records you hear in the mix.

Guest Mix: Çerikunda & Grup Ses (Turkish Gems, Beats & Edits)

Today, I am excited to share with you a really special guest mix from Çerikunda & Grup Ses.

Together they present the annual “Turkish Diggin’ Report”, a series of mixes of rare and obscure Turkish Folk, Psych, Funk and Rock from the 60s, 70s and 80s. And on 2016s “Alliance” album, Grup Ses twisted snippets of obscure Turkish music into something unique and new.

For this mix, they blend a selection of rare Turkish gems together with new edits and unreleased beats. A serious treat to behold.

*Out Now* AVER – DIE BERLIN DATEIEN

‘Die Berlin Dateien’ is the first fully instrumental hip-hop album by AVER, the chief producer of The Natural Curriculum (TNC) and it out now on Village Live Records. The first video from the project was just released too, and you can check that and the album trailer below.AVER_VINYL_MOCK1.jpgCreated whilst living in Berlin, AVER developed the 16 tracks as part of an attempt to evolve traditional sample use with more complex rhythms and off beat drum breaks. The album features scratching and beatbox by fellow members of TNC and is overlaid with German language vocals that provide an abstract narrative to further embellish the dream-like, somewhat dystopian nature of the album. Check the trailer below and the video for the track “Portale”, all shot by Ja-m-es

If you want to hear more about Aver’s creative process, listen back to OOQ pt.4 where he discusses the making of the last Natural Curriculum LP, the Hip-Hop supergroup he is part of.
